Conversation With My Son

I was having this conversation with my son, 9 years of age last night and it prompt me to post it here.

He asked me what do I think of people holding a job as a janitor or cleaner?

Is their job important?

How much money do I think they make a month?

Is it enough?

He answered his own question by telling me that he thinks that it’s important even though their work may be dirty and unappreciated, the positions usually occupied by those that are lowly or lesser educated. Not the best paying job (but can be as good as other jobs in some countries as I was told) or appreciated by others.

Why is it important? Well, he told me that even though their jobs is not exactly “clean” and actually dirty, they are doing the cleaning, cleaning up after everyone, maintaining a clean and hygiene environment which is important to everyone’s well being. Same goes for garbage collectors. Someone has to do the job!

His answers bring back memories of remarks that we may have made or heard others telling their children; “you better study hard and get better grades if you don’t want to end up like one of them!”

Are you guilty of that?

Well, life’s like that, it’s unfair and life goes on.

I have had many interesting conversation with my son in the past but it only strike me to write them down last night.
